ICC, an international research network dedicated to cosmetics

Located in the heart of the Centre-Val de Loire region, COSMÉTOSCIENCES is a flagship programme dedicated to innovation and scientific excellence in the cosmetics sector. Funded by the region and led by the University of Orléans, in collaboration with the CNRS, the University of Tours, the AgroParisTech cosmetology chair, LE STUDIUM and COSMETIC VALLEY, it brings together 11 academic laboratories, 23 research teams and various technical platforms. COSMÉTOSCIENCES supports cutting-edge research and the development of sustainable solutions to the industry's current challenges. With over 76 collaborative industry-research projects supported, COSMÉTOSCIENCES underlines its crucial and structuring role in the advancement of cosmetics research. Its mission is to meet the industrial needs of the cosmetics industry by drawing on the research expertise of academic laboratories to develop natural, safe and effective cosmetics, covering every stage in the cosmetics product value chain.

The INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR COSMÉTOSCIENCES (ICC) is an academic research network dedicated to the development and promotion of cosmetics research at an international level. Launched in 2024 by the Cosmetosciences programme, the ICC aims to tackle the environmental, societal and technological challenges facing the cosmetics industry on an international scale. It aims to set up research projects to address, on an international scale, the environmental, societal, and technological challenges facing the industry.

Background and objectives
The ICC is the result of international initiatives carried out since 2015 by the COSMETOSCIENCES programme, in conjunction with LE STUDIUM, has launched several international research initiatives, such as hosting guest researchers and organising themed conferences and international workshops to foster international collaboration.

The Centre-Val de Loire region is supporting the internationalisation of cosmetics research and innovation by co-supporting the Go4Cosmetics European platform, led by COSMETIC VALLEY. Identifying the need to further consolidate these exchanges and promote the creation of international projects, ICC has been set up to consolidate an international scientific community focused on cosmetic science and generate new interactions between players in the sector. Today, ICC is a unique international research network made up of 85 experts from 25 countries, contributing to the overall objective of strengthening international collaboration in cosmetic research. ICC’s main missions are as follows:

  • To establish a network to encourage collaborative research, taking into account the socio-economic challenges of each regional area.
  • To promote and enhance scientific research and innovation.
  • To encourage the development of joint research projects to foster innovation and progress.
  • To ensure that best practice is shared and research results disseminated within the scientific community and beyond, to inform and inspire new advances.

An international scientific community to meet the needs of industry and innovate together
The ICC network is interdisciplinary and encompasses several key areas of cosmetic research, including the sourcing of natural raw materials, the development of new ingredients, tests to assess the efficacy and safety of ingredients and finished products, formulation, and technological innovations to meet environmental and societal challenges.
Through the organisation of events, training activities and the development of collaborative projects, ICC continues to build and structure a dynamic international scientific community dedicated to the advancement of cosmetic sciences.
